Viral respiratory illness (VRI) is a general term for lung and airway infections. The viruses involved may be influenza, coronavirus, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Infection can lead to severe illness especially those who are more clinically vulnerable in acute care, long term care facilities (LTCFs), and congregate settings. These documents will retain focus on providing guidance for VRI due to Influenza and COVID-19. Guidance and implementation of outbreak control measures for LTCFs can be found in our VRI Toolkit: LTCF Guide.
